M3-Mammoth Mountain by Rick Cole Carole Badt

10 miles North of Bishop, Friday night it started snowing—awesome we thought—and it was. Jim our driver promptly place chains upon the bus and we made our way to the condos
slightly later than usual. On arrival to the condos, we departed from the bus and stepped
into six inches of fresh dry lite fluffy powder.

Friday morning we arose, sun was shining. Outside was a brisk 9 degrees. It was a many splendid thing as we encountered the best snow of the season. The March Miracle has arrived. The Main Lodge base had one and a half feet, the top was close to if not over two
feet. It was a magnificent day for the indulgence of skiing lite, dry, nu-tracked powder snow.

Saturday started as a beautiful sunny day. The snow still excellent although bit windy culminating with the close of the complete mountain at 2pm.

Sunday, another beautiful day. Sun is out as so were we. The snow still great with a slight breeze and we delightfully skied to closing. After skiing each day several members headed
to the Jacuzzi for a good soak before heading to dinner at the party condo.

Friday and Saturday nights we were gleefully presented with an epicurean delight of ampule proportion of taste and slight to the scrumptious cooking of our dear and generous co-trip
leader Carole Badt.
Rick kept us entertained with a copious quantity of dark and lite crafted
beer in addition to bountiful wine pairs.

All in attendance were genuinely gratified and filled to excess at each nights end.
The ride
home Sunday was a time to reflect on the good snow, good food, good times with good ski friends. All had an awesome time with Carole and Rick.
As Usual we stopped in Bishop for
pizza which we ate to our hearts content. We complimented the pizza with a few red, white,
lite and dark beverages. Then we viewed a wonderful movie, It happened one night.

We want to thank those who helped and gave so generously of the time and labor to make
the trip a success.
We also want to thank Jim our drive who drove us safely from San Diego to Mammoth
and back again.

Thank you,
Carole and Rick

ACTION DOES JACKSON….HOLE, that is
by Anna Marie Sorriso

Thirty-one Actioneers descended on Jackson Hole Wyoming March 1stto 7th, staying at the 49er Inn and Suites near downtown Jackson. Central to restaurants and nightlife with their own shuttle to take us to and
from the mountain each day and a hearty hot breakfast every morning, the 49er was a great place to stay.
The Inn served us a substantive welcome reception meal on our arrival and some good wine. Canned Bud and Coors beer was not up to the usual Action standards but the price was right. Later in the week, the 49er owner cooked up an elk BBQ with all the fixings for our hungry folks.

We expected early spring conditions but got late winter instead. Cold temperatures and several storms brought fresh powder to the mountains along with some great skiing. Some Actioneers were not happy with the low visibility but those who ventured out were thrilled with the snow!!

Happy Hours at the Mangy Moose and around town kept everyone happy après ski. Some folks discovered
a tiny bar—4 seats—in the Mountain Khaki store at the base of the slopes that served inexpensive shots and
$2 beer. In the evenings, some, including Greg M. and Annie F. enjoyed dancing at the Cowboy Bar.

Those who went to Grand Targhee for day trips, including Susannah S., and Nancy H.,raved about the light, waist deep powder they found there…a rare treat for Actioneers

Several of us marveled at the elk herds in the National Elk Preserve on a sleigh ride through the preserve.

Jim B. and Charles R. went dogsledding. Leah C., Suzanne R. and Rick W. and others went snowmobiling.
Unfortunately, Julie G. was not able to enjoy her trip after the first day since she broke her leg and had to fly home. Good news for those who wondered….the break was stable and well aligned and will not require surgery, so she should heal quickly. Unlike the Telluride trip where most everyone caught the flu, only a few folks picked up a cold on the last day..

We ended the trip with a group dinner at the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill in the beautifully remodeled Wort Hotel. Yours truly was unable to attend due to an unhappy encounter with some bad food, so thanks went to Nancy H. for stepping in and handling the dinner coordination and monies. Thanks also goes to Susannah
for co-leading the trip.

BANFF MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL
at Natural History Museum in Balboa Park
Fourteen Actioneers enjoyed the camaraderie of happy hour or dinner before the festival at The Prado Restaurant and then headed over to the Museum for another excellent viewing of the Banff film festival entries. None of us won any raffle prizes but we all had an enjoyable time reveling in the screen adventures. Next time we'll aim for a Saturday event, if we can get tickets, since some folks were yawning about having to get to work early the next morning. But it was worth it!
