Thirty-one Actioneers descended on Jackson Hole Wyoming March 1stto 7th, staying at the 49er Inn and Suites near downtown Jackson. Central to restaurants and nightlife with their own shuttle to take us to and
from the mountain each day and a hearty hot breakfast every morning, the 49er was a great place to stay. The Inn served us a substantive welcome reception meal on our arrival and some good wine. Canned Bud and Coors beer was not up to the usual Action standards but the price was right. Later in the week, the 49er owner cooked up an elk BBQ with all the fixings for our hungry folks.
We expected early spring conditions but got late winter instead. Cold temperatures and several storms brought fresh powder to the mountains along with some great skiing. Some Actioneers were not happy with the low visibility but those who ventured out were thrilled with the snow!!
Happy Hours at the Mangy Moose and around town kept everyone happy après ski. Some folks discovered
a tiny bar—4 seats—in the Mountain Khaki store at the base of the slopes that served inexpensive shots and
$2 beer. In the evenings, some, including Greg M. and Annie F. enjoyed dancing at the Cowboy Bar.
Those who went to Grand Targhee for day trips, including Susannah S., and Nancy H.,raved about the light, waist deep powder they found there…a rare treat for Actioneers
Several of us marveled at the elk herds in the National Elk Preserve on a sleigh ride through the preserve.
Jim B. and Charles R. went dogsledding. Leah C., Suzanne R. and Rick W. and others went snowmobiling.
Unfortunately, Julie G. was not able to enjoy her trip after the first day since she broke her leg and had to fly home. Good news for those who wondered….the break was stable and well aligned and will not require surgery, so she should heal quickly. Unlike the Telluride trip where most everyone caught the flu, only a few folks picked up a cold on the last day..
We ended the trip with a group dinner at the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill in the beautifully remodeled Wort Hotel. Yours truly was unable to attend due to an unhappy encounter with some bad food, so thanks went to Nancy H. for stepping in and handling the dinner coordination and monies. Thanks also goes to Susannah
for co-leading the trip.
